There is just so much history and tales surrounding the West Lake of Hangzhou. Exploring the entire place would probably take up a whole day or 2 half days as it is just that big. The lake is a very serene place, a true beauty of nature, especially in autumn when the flowers are blooming.

Was told about the fact it is a man made lake and I was shocked. It’s big and looks so real. Walk around the promenade is very relaxing and you can also enjoy a boat ride to a small island at the centre.

One of the highlight is taking a boat to the small island, right in the middle of West Lake.

After we bought the tickets, we board on this boat.

The large boat ride costs about 50 yuan and that should be the only thing that you may have to pay to get around. Smaller private boats would have a different pricing not too sure about that.

By taking a boat, one can get to see the lake side in different perspective.

Fishes in the lake.

About 15 minutes later, we get off the boat at this pier. There are several piers on the island. I forgot which one it is.

This way leads to Three-Ponds-Mirroring-the Moon (三潭印月).

This is an island within the lake and is only accessible via ferry from the main jetties. There are 4 pools within the island and on a night with a full moon, you will be able to see the reflection of the moon on each of the lakes.

The view here is beautiful enough to worth a go…

The island is unusual in that most of it is actually water, with a causeway around the edge and walkways across the inner lake. There are small shrines and buildings on the causeway and on the walkways.

The colourful Flora and fauna adds beauty to the scenery. Landscape was well maintain and good place for taking scenic photography.

A tree with 3 different color flowers at the same time.

This was a very enjoyable and relaxing walk. Just strolled around the island and admiring views of the city or the ponds inside. Note that when you leave, you can select from several different departure docks depending on where you want to go.
